Dystopia & Apocalypse

Dystopia & Apocalypse

Hello! I’m honestly a huge fan of all your recommendations, you never lead me astray! I was just curious to see if you have any Stony fanfic recommendations with Post-Apocalyptic or like barren wasteland themes? Thank you in advanced eitherway! :3

Ahhhh, dystopian Stony!  Yes, there are a few really good ones!  Often rather plot-heavy, but so inventive!  I’m going to include purely dystopian setting recs, along with some that are more along the lines of “world where everything sucks,” but I think they capture the spirit of your ask.  Enjoy!

COMMENTS AND KUDOS KEEP HOPE ALIVE FOR YOUR AUTHORS!

Unveil My Unsightly Heart by Mizzy: Looking over an old prototype helicarrier for its future viability as
a base for the Avengers should have just been a routine day full of
bickering and non-adventure for Steve Rogers and Tony Stark. But
when they’re catapulted into an alternate universe – where their
alternate selves are married and battling with a mysterious threat – the
two are forced to get over their differences in order to figure out
what’s going on, before it’s too late. Because there’s more going
on than meets the eye, and Steve and Tony falling in love might just be
the most dangerous thing that can happen. Not just for one universe,
but for all of them…

Survival by @missbeckywrites:
Usually it’s just an academic question: how far would you go to survive
in hell? Two years as a prisoner in Jotunheim, and Tony Stark knows
exactly what it takes to stay alive. Even if it costs him his humanity.

Be Still by @wordsplat:
It’s the end of the world, but it’s not the virus that’s going to kill him.

Resistance by @thegraytigress (WiP): After being kidnapped during a fight, Tony and Steve
find themselves in a nightmare unlike any other.  They’re millions of
miles from home and trapped in an alien labor camp that can only be
described as hell.  There’s no chance of being found, no hope of being
rescued, and they’re facing deplorable conditions, vicious guards, and
other prisoners who are sadistic and cruel and just desperate to prey on
them.  Again and again they’re told they only have two choices in this
place: work or die. They choose something else.  Survival.

Relativistic Heat Conduction by @blossomsinthemist:
Age of Ultron-based, but not entirely canon compliant.  Written for the
2013 Cap-Iron Man Reverse Big Bang.  Ultron has attacked, obliterating
most of the world’s superheroes and resistance in a matter of hours.
The remaining heroes band together and share what strength they have to
get through it, to survive, and defeat Ultron once and for all.  Steve
Rogers grieves in the wake of the disaster and the heroes’ defeat, and
no one knows if he will be able to provide the leadership they need–but
Tony Stark isn’t about to let him slip away that easily.

Come the Winter (Come the Storm) by @captainshellhead, vibraniumstark: Tony Stark, an unremarkable day laborer in the gulag in
Izhma, has been deemed too much of a  liability to be allowed to remain
in Soviet control. Steve Rogers, one of SHIELD’s top operatives, is
sent undercover into one of the USSR’s many internment camps with the
specific instructions to retrieve him. The plan was simple, which, in hindsight was the first indication that everything was about to fall apart.

The Long Road South by citsiurtlanu:
Zombie apocalypse AU. Steve Rogers is rescued ten years after going into
the ice to find the world taken over by the undead, with the man who
brought him out being none other than his old flame, Tony Stark.
Believing that the serum running through Steve’s veins is humanity’s
last hope for finding a cure, they begin the long journey south in order
to meet up with Tony’s other contacts – dealing with hordes of biters,
living people of varying trustworthiness, and Steve’s own unresolved
anger toward Tony for his role in the War along the way.

Out of Many Waters by @arukou-arukou:
A freak accident sends Tony and Steve hurtling onto an alien planet.
They’ve only each other for survival, and both have an unfortunate
tendency towards monumentally stupid self-sacrifice.

Engine 3 by Del_Rion: As the years pass, the challenges grow and the stakes
are raised ever higher, they’re both still drawn to the place where they
first worked as a team. It was there, at Engine 3, that Steve pressed
Tony against the wall and kissed him for the first time, and that is
where they’ll find each other again when the world is coming to an end.Written for: My card on Trope Bingo’s Round 2 (square: “au: apocalypse”)

Prisoner’s Dilemma by @awesomeavocadolove:
After taking the airplane down in the Arctic, Steve wakes to find
himself imprisoned as a human test subject. With no idea where in the
world he is, his only ally is a fast-talking inventor in the cell next
door. Something’s off about Tony that Steve can’t put his finger on, and
it’s obvious Tony doesn’t fully trust him either. But to escape they
may not have a choice…

Past Imperfect by @captainneverever: Present day Tony tells Steve that Steve wouldn’t like the college version of Tony. An
alternative Steve, living in a dystopian future, is sent back to the
past to stop the death of a young Tony Stark at MIT. He doesn’t know
what he’s going to find but he’s going to try his best to save Tony.

Gravely, Deeply, Deadly by @winterstar95: Tony looks at the remains of what he’s done. He looks
at it, long and hard. He memorizes the details, the horror. This is his
sin to own.or Tony and Steve are caught in a zombie apocalypse and things do not go well.

The Silence In Between by @winterstar95:
Steve Rogers put the Red Skull’s plane filled with bombs that could end
civilization into the Arctic Ocean at the cost of his life. Over seventy
years later, he wakes up imprisoned and under the control of the State,
a tyrannical government based on the legacy of Johann Schmidt and
Hydra. With a neural net implanted in his brain to control his every
move, his every thought, Steve Rogers, once Captain America, is assigned
as Primary Designate for one of the Ruling Families. His duties as
Primary Designate include the protection of the sole remaining heir to
Stark Industries, Tony Stark. As bodyguard, Steve learns that the world
is a very different place; not all is as it seems, and no one can be
trusted. His introduction to the 21st century has just begun but the war
against Hydra is everlasting.

In a Land of Shadow by Bragi151, LePeru:
Steve Rogers has woken up in a post apocalyptic Earth with no memory of
how he got there. Guided by the ghost of Tony Stark, Steve finds his way
through the wasteland to try and fix his world, or at least stop other
worlds from meeting a similar fate. At least, that’s who he thinks is
guiding him and what he thinks he’s doing. Steve isn’t quite sure
himself. See End Notes for Warnings.

In the Future, Things Get Better (Yet Remain the Same) series by AngeNoir: After the radioactive wars, citizens live in cities walled off
and covered by a shield to prevent radiation from coming into the city.
For most of his life, Steve Rogers has lived in New York City, but when
his best friend needs an expensive piece of medical equipment, Steve
helps pay for it and looks for a job in a smaller city where rent and
expenses would be less.He finds a small city in Catskill, and is
greeted by a small enough population that everyone knew everyone else’s
business. It’s slightly startling and strange – especially when his
coworkers try, on his first day at work, to set him up with Tony Stark.Tony
Stark, who is a member of the aristocracy, has been hiding away from
the world, dealing with kids and giving his patronage to this small town
so long as he doesn’t need to interact with the rest of the world. No
one knows what happened to him during his kidnapping and he isn’t about
to tell anyone. But when a former flame sends Steve Rogers to his door,
he’s captivated – and he pursues Steve, even when it becomes clear that
there is a specter haunting Steve’s past. Tony’s determined to show
Steve that it’s alright to trust again, and in turn helps himself on the
path back into the world.

Circlulaire by gonetoarcadia:
The world ends on a Wednesday. An anonymous invading force interested in
nothing but destruction wipes out most of the world’s major urban
centres within an hour. In the aftermath, with the few heroes left alive
bitterly divided between moving forward or looking for a way back, Tony
Stark and Steve Rogers set out to find out what happened, and make sure
that it never does.

Constructs in Progress by Muccamukk:
In the seven territories built out of the ruins of New York City, no one
has managed to match Tony Stark as either a technologist or a unicorn
rider. But when Tony’s secrets come back to haunt him, even Captain
Rogers and his mysterious lover might not be able to save him, or the
city.

Underground by Margo_Kim:
Five years ago, Thor’s Chitauri army decimated the Earth. Now what’s
left of humanity lives in bases under the Earth’s surface, safe from the
toxic atmosphere. Tony likes to think that humanity’s adapted pretty
well. After all, they have movie nights and dances; they’re doing better
than could be expected. But when he learns that the little world of
safety and stability they’ve carved out is about to be slowly but surely
destroyed, the New York Underground is left with only two
options–fight or flight. Tony knows which one he wants. If only Steve
weren’t on the exact opposite side. Meanwhile, Natasha wants whatever
option will save Clint, Pepper wants whatever option will save the base,
Maria Hill wants whatever option will save everybody, and nobody’s
exactly sure who Loki’s trying to save, but everyone’s hoping it’s more
than just himself.

You Gave Me a Home by Moonrose001: Since Registration passed on and Sentinels started
guarding the streets instead of superheroes, the USA has come to
resemble Dystopia more than an united country. A young group of masked
teenagers are fighting back the undemocratic and unconstitutional ways,
lead by Captain America. And Steve Rogers is a handsome, but
awkward student leading a double life. He is also head and heels in love
with Tony Stark, the son of the government’s arms dealer.
