Post-Infinity War & The Burner Phone
Hey sabre! Congrats on the new blog, its so warm and cozy here. I was curious if you, or any of your readers, knew of any post Infinity War trailer fics, or just fics that feature *that* phone heavily. Thanks! I hope you’re having a great day.
Someone’s asking on the right blog! Yay! You get answered first, lol. Mind the tags on these, as some might be more what you are wanting than others. Sometimes, I like angst, sometimes I like smut, sometimes I like manpain, whatever. So, lots of choices here. I admit that I haven’t read all of these. I went through a “No CACW fics!” period right after the movie, but there are so many great looking fics and wonderful authors, and the IW trailer has made me sort of want to dive back in again.
Also b/c I’m writing one, God help me, so I guess that obligates me to read others.
LEAVE YOUR COMMENTS AND KUDOS AFTER THE BEEP.
One Phone Call Away by (ann2who) @stark-spangled-lovers:
Post Civil War movie. SPOILERS AHEAD.
Best Served With a Twist by @chibisquirt: The phone rang three times before Steve answered, and then he was there, warm voice in his ear, like the comms, like the way things used to be. “Tony,” he breathed, and Tony’s heart clenched at the nostalgia for a moment…“Hey, Steve.”…before he snapped back and did what he had to do.“Remember how you said if I needed you, I could call?”
Lines of Communication by @cptxrogers: “And you think you could take me, do you, Stark?” “I’d give it a good fucking try. I’d like to shove you into the nearest wall and wrap my hands around your damn neck.”“Oh yeah? And then what?”
Post-CACW, a series of phone calls between Tony and Steve.
In Case of (Coronary) Emergency by @veldeia: Normal people make embarrassing phone calls while drunk, but not Tony. He only makes embarrassing phone calls while having a heart attack.Bingo fill for the prompt “canon: MCU (post-CA:CW)”.
Random Words of Kindness by Hammocker:
If there was one thing Tony hadn’t expected that morning, it was finding a pile of letters scattered across his desk. Who sends letters anymore, anyway?
Amantium irae amoris redintegratio est by Fabulae: “The quarrels of lovers are the renewal of love.“ Terence.Steve sent Tony a phone; call, if you need us. But it’s Steve that needs Tony. And Tony helps.
two ghosts by killaidanturner:
Steve has unsent text messages to Tony sitting in his phone.
Seven Words by 88 problems:
Based on the Captain America: Civil War office scene at the end of the film. It has been a few weeks since Siberia. Long enough to have memorized the letter. “If you need me, I”ll be there.” Those seven words haunt him, as does the phone.
Several months have passed since the events in Siberia and Steve misses Tony with an ache he doesn’t quite understand. Then the phone rings.
Somedays It Don’t Come Easy by @thecitylightshow: Tony wanted to hurl the phone across the room.Opening the drawer of Steve’s desk – and lord was it bad enough he was sat in Steve’s office, little used as it was, to read that infernal letter – he rather wished he had.No hint of them, in this room, in the letter. No hint of even a second of it; except for the little black velvet box tucked away in the drawer. The ring nestles in deep red material, a thick golden band with a blue star inlaid. In a different circumstance, the answer would be shaking, and the ring would be slipped on with gentle fingers-He’s not even sure when he lost it, he just knows that it’s not his, anymore. How a what-if before Lagos went from being the wrong choice, to the right choice. A Stony Civil War fix-it.
Calling in Love by owltype: Tony squints at the object lying next to his head, the one playing an annoying 8-bit rendition of The Star-Spangled Banner at an annoyingly high volume. It’s the burner phone Steve had given him.At first, Tony is amused. Of course Steve had programmed it to play that song. Steve is sassy like that. Anybody who doesn’t think so has clearly never known the man.Tony’s second thought is oh fuck.Steve.
The Call by Orange_Coyote:
Tony has almost picked up that phone various times. But something stopped him in each instance.
This time he’s all alone, with only that damn phone for company.
Nothing can prevent him from making what is quite possibly a horrible decision.
If You Need Me by poetically ordinary:
Steve doesn’t know what he was expecting fully when he sent Tony the letter and the phone, but it’s safe to say that this wasn’t it.
How Happiness Works by little_werewolf:
It’s during days like these, where Tony just wants one thing back in his life. So he finally manages to take the phone and call Steve Rogers.
Motorola StarTAC by morphia:
Tony drinks until he can summon the courage to call Steve. Or: It’s a feelsy phone-fic.
Arrows in Both Your Eyes by Aethersprite:
Steve stares at the phone and wills it to ring.
What Was Built Between Us by orphan_account: Tony is struggling after Steve leaves, he won’t admit it, but he is. And the phone he left sits there begging him to call the man, telling him to dial his number. Throw everything away and run after him.But all he really wants is to hear Steve’s voice.
Sorting Things Out (or not) by Impala_Chick:
Steve sees a news interview featuring Tony trying to smooth over what happened to the Avengers. Steve gets angry and uses the phone.
I miss you by dragonskin:
Tony gets an unexpected phone call
If You Need Me by Dormammu:
After their not-so-friendly separation, Tony got Steve’s shield, an “emergency” phone (we all know what it’s really for though), a badly written letter, and a lot of heartache. But was that all he needed? A certain Man With A Plan didn’t think so. So he sent one more thing in that break-up box.
Over Sea, Under Stars by @the-vorkosigan: Tony gets the phone, but he never uses it and he never intends to. Or, he doesn’t until Steve starts texting him, asking strange questions about medication and mental health, which is when Tony gets worried.(A texting fix-it that grew beyond all proportion. Deals with depression and anxiety quite a lot. There is even some plot in there somewhere.)
A Nuke to Your Chest by @the-vorkosigan: —“Suit,” Tony said, striding towards the main door of his mansion. It came out more garbled than he’d intended. Still, the parts of his suit came flying; his exoskeleton stabilized him somewhat. He hit the button and opened the door. Then he raised his fists and lay into Steve Rogers, who was standing on his doorstep with a slightly tired look in his eyes.—After Siberia, Tony held it together, but after that awful letter he started drinking. Heavily. And now he’s having blackouts. Obviously, he doesn’t remember calling Rogers on that cursed phone. And what you can’t remember, well, it didn’t happen. Obviously. And Steve Rogers has had enough.
Distance by @cnjrupasmle: “Not even a week had passed since Steve and his BFF had completely demolished his suit and slunk off into the shadows and already Tony missed the hell out of him. Steve, that is. He still couldn’t really bring himself to give a rat’s ass about Barnes except for the fact that he was important to Steve.Tony snapped the phone shut and set it to the side. On second thought, he pushed it a few inches further away. He was pretty sure it wasn’t possible, but he didn’t want to take any chances that the archaicness was contagious. Satisfied that the flip phone was far enough away so that his shiny new StarkTech was safe, Tony turned back to the carefully creased paper again.Tony read the letter a fourth time. His fingers twitched.“In the fallout after the Civil War, Tony finds himself more alone than he thought possible. Hopefully, the ends will justify the means. It has to be worth it. Right?
Bring Him Home by @seventymilestobabylon: Tony misses Steve very badly after the Accords. Some days he deals with it better than other days.(a fic featuring the booty call flip phone, minor kidnappings, and time jumps between chapters because the election has been happening and my brain has been too mush to make a proper plot)
talk is cheap by allourheroes:
Tony keeps staring at a flip phone–flip phone, Peter can barely believe his eyes–like it holds all the answers he’s too afraid to ask.
Saved Draft by flawedamythyst: See, the thing about a phone connected to Steve, even a top secret phone that should only be used in emergencies, was that Tony’s fingers itched to use it.Post-Civil War fix-it fic for 1electricpirate’s birthday.
“You were supposed to say thank you,” Tony said after a moment, covering his eyes with his forearm. It wasn’t as if Steve could see him. “It’s only polite, you know. Happy birthday, Steve—Thank you, Tony.”
dear, by snowkind: The phone gently vibrated against the table.
A simple hum that brought the wood to life.Steve rolled onto his side and blindly groped for the phone. He cracked an eye open, looked at the caller, then promptly closed his eye and set the phone back down.[Caller: Stark, Tony…]His eyes flew open and he shot up from his bed, opening the phone and putting it to his ear in an uneven breath.“Ton—”
May the Bridges I have Burned Light My Way Back Home (on This Fourth of July) by btBatt:
Tony calls to wish Steve a happy 99th birthday, of all things.
Hey, Tony by jordieey:
Based on this prompt: Person B knowing they’re undoubtedly about to die within the next few seconds, likely from the gaping wound they’re bleeding out from. Instead of calling for help, they phone Person A and carry on a casual conversation as if nothing is wrong, making sure to mention how much they love them before their time runs out.
…And Tony Answers the Damn Phone by orphan_account:
The phone stays silent for a long time, but someday somehow somebody will have to call (let’s make Steve do it).
Infinity War Trailer Fics (I haven’t read all of them, but there aren’t many, so here you go):
Mended Shield, Broken Heart by @laireshi: “I’m coming,” Steve said, quiet and serious.“I know,” Tony replied. They’d save the world or they’d die side by side, but not together, not ever again.
(Together We) Disassemble by RayShippouUchiha: “I didn’t call you,” Tony rasps. It’s all he can think to say with the taste of blood heavy on his tongue and the feel of his atoms being pulled apart filling every nerve with pain.“I know,” Steve smiles down at him, sad and pained and still so beautiful despite everything that’d passed between them. “You didn’t need me Tony, you never needed me.”
See You When We Get There by Dormammu:
After he falls in battle, Tony wakes up somewhere strange. Possibly afterlife, possibly not.
certainties by @goodmorningbeloved:
Maybe by the time they turn to the BARF, too much has already happened. Maybe by the time they turn to the BARF, it doesn’t feel like the last second life-saving intervention they need but instead horror and grief and desperation. There must have been something they missed that first time Thanos came to earth, there must be something they’re not getting, and whatever that something is, they pay for each precious second they don’t figure it out.
once more unto the breach by Juulna: All Tony can do is stare at the pile of bodies in front of him. He forces himself to look at their faces, each and every one of them. They were his partners, his colleagues, his friends, both old and new, and those who had only just returned to the fold—“Cap, fuck, I’m sorry, I’m so sorry…”“I’m here, Tony. I know. I know… We’ll get through to the other side and then we’ll… we’ll talk.”—and he forces himself to look so that he can give them their proper due, honor them in the only way that’s left to him: his memories.***
(No actual character death occurs—the deaths occur inside of Tony’s vision.)
what’s left of us by Pericardiaca:
Mantis touches Tony and Steve and desperatly tries to process their emotions. It’s a literal emotional rollercoaster ride; there’s just the question if it can end on a high for Tony and Steve…
The End Is Coming by angelmira:
I shouldn’t watch the trailer for Infinity War.
