Steve or Tony Dying
Hi, Sabremum! Was just curious of any fics where one of our lads
dying? I know, so angsty–but I love it. Twisted mind of mine and all.
You’re truly an asset to the fandom! Wouldn’t be nearly the same
without you!
Okay,
admittedly, I have not read a ton of these because my heart can’t take
it, but here are some I can rec and if anyone else has other
suggestions, please add them. Definitely check out the Marvel 1872 recs
as well, since there are some there, too.
COMMENTS AND KUDOS ARE BETTER THAN TISSUES! (THAT SOUNDS BAD B/C I’VE BEEN REC’ING SO MUCH PORN!)
What Rough Beast by @immoral-crow:
Steve Rogers, super soldier. It’s amazing really that
it takes them all so long to work out just what the serum can do… but
given enough time all things become apparent. This is a story about
love, and loss; the things we would do to be true to ourselves and true
to our hearts; and the prices you must pay to do that.(There is a more
detailed description at the end, in case you want more warnings and
spoilers)
Watch Your Light Go Out by @elise509:
The incident in Washington D.C. is not the first time The Winter Soldier has tracked Steve Rogers. Nor will it be the last.
Between the Lines of Fear and Blame by KeeperofSeeds:
A Civil War AU. Tony takes the bullet meant for Steve at the Courthouse.
Killing Me Softly (With His Song) by @itsallavengers: Steve is Tony’s whole world. Tony couldn’t imagine life without him. They’ve grown up together, after all.Steve gets cancer.
Coping by nightwalker:
Steve Rogers is very good at surviving, whether he likes it or not.
Heart Covered in Smoke by @sineala:
And now Tony’s standing here, at the end of the world, and Steve’s
coming to kill him. Honestly, he can’t think of a better way to go.
We Should Live Until We Die by Unknown:
Tony gets sick. Tony is dying. Tony doesn’t tell a soul.
Casualty of War (series) by White_Noise:
He was sorry. Sorry that it had to end like this. Sorry he
couldn’t be the bigger man and forgive Barnes. Sorry he had driven all
his friend away. Sorry that he wasn’t strong enough. Sorry that he was
just a man, playing at being a hero while the real heroes were forced to
work around him.Sorry that there are always casualties in war. (A
re-imagining of the infamous Court House scene from the CW comic, set in
the MCU, because some sadistic person had to do it)
Loved You and Always Will by SuperMazeWolf: Tony’s body was found on December 25th, at the roof of
his tower with a gun in hand, a glass of gleaming scotch on the tiny
table next to him, and an envelope.(Wow, angst all around. Enjoy Steve wallowing in guilt and dead Tony.)
Rusted Wheel (Or How Civil War Might Have Ended) by @kiyaar:
Tony was on the steps of the Courthouse and took the bullets for Steve.
What I’m Trying to Say Is, We Need You
by starkerized: AU where Tony died at the end of Civil War.
Alternately: What if everything in 616 happened – the unfinished eulogy,
the Letter, the what-ifs and possible happy endings thrown in his face – except inflicted on MCU Steve?
Redemption by samptra:
He wanted to say he wasn’t sure when it had become an
obsession, but that would be a lie. It had become an obsession the day
he had lost him. He’d lost his soul and his mind that day. No that
wasn’t accurate either; he had lost his heart that day. They buried it
with that patriotic hero.
The Lies I tell Myself
by coaster: In a different universe, Tony took the bullet meant for
Steve. It didn’t go as he would’ve wanted it to.~It didn’t go as Steve
would have wanted it to.
If Wishes Were Horses by ashinan:
A high whine starts in Steve’s ears and he realizes it’s Tony, screaming, screaming, tearing apart at the seams while the street shatters in its silence.
Relativistic Heat Conduction by @blossomsinthemist:
Age of Ultron-based, but not entirely canon compliant. Written for the
2013 Cap-Iron Man Reverse Big Bang. Ultron has attacked, obliterating
most of the world’s superheroes and resistance in a matter of hours.
The remaining heroes band together and share what strength they have to
get through it, to survive, and defeat Ultron once and for all. Steve
Rogers grieves in the wake of the disaster and the heroes’ defeat, and
no one knows if he will be able to provide the leadership they need–but
Tony Stark isn’t about to let him slip away that easily.
If I die, only in Manhattan (series) by everythingispoetry:
A few months after coming back from Afghanistan, Tony finds out that he has cancer. Faced with that and other problems, he hides behind Iron Man’s mask and disappears from the world. For some time, the world almost forgets. The Avengers never get to meet Tony Stark, but someone is too curious for their own good.Tony Stark, genius billionaire playboy philanthropist alcoholic. Iron Man, Avenger. Nate Rives, mute self-taught computer genius consultant for S.H.I.E.L.D. Everything is a puzzle. (thanks to @rosefyrefyre for the suggestion!)
